tectonitX™ is a concrete-based construction material and manufacturing system that combines large-scale additive manufacturing with advanced concrete technology. Developed by additive tectonics GmbH, the material is designed for the production of complex architectural and structural components using 3D printing techniques.
The system enables the fabrication of concrete elements without the need for conventional formwork, allowing material to be deposited only where it is structurally required. This approach reduces material waste and expands design possibilities by facilitating the production of geometries that are difficult or impossible to achieve using traditional casting methods.
tectonitX™ can be used to manufacture large-format components with dimensions of up to approximately 4 × 2.5 × 1.5 metres. The printing process achieves a high level of precision, with layer resolutions down to 3 millimetres, enabling the creation of detailed surface textures and complex structural forms.
The material has been developed to meet the performance requirements of demanding construction applications. Compressive strength values can exceed 65 MPa, providing the structural capacity required for a wide range of architectural and engineering projects. In addition, the material demonstrates resistance to environmental influences such as freeze–thaw cycles and weathering, supporting long-term durability in exterior conditions.
By integrating digital design workflows with additive manufacturing technologies, tectonitX™ offers architects and engineers greater freedom in the design and production of concrete structures. The elimination of formwork, combined with precise material placement, enables more resource-efficient construction processes while supporting the fabrication of customised building elements.
Suitable for both architectural and structural applications, tectonitX™ represents an approach to concrete construction that combines digital manufacturing, material efficiency and high-performance concrete technology in a single production system.
